Men's Tennis Defeats In-State Rival North Alabama Thursday

FLORENCE, Ala. – The Troy men's tennis teamed continued its strong play on the courts with a dominant, 7-0 shutout win over in-state rival North Alabama on Thursday. The win was Troy's fifth consecutive and 11th overall this season.
Troy opened its two-match road trip in style on Thursday with a decisive victory over North Alabama. The Trojans started the afternoon out with strong play in doubles. Troy won the doubles point thanks to a clean, 6-0 win on court two by the duo of Amer Bedwan and Carles Anton, who made their doubles debut as a pair. Their victory was followed by a 7-5 win on court three by Vito Llinares and Andy Romero, who also made their doubles debut as a pair.
When singles action got underway, Troy picked up right where it left off in doubles. Anton, who just won his doubles match by a 6-0 score, followed suit with an equally impressive 6-0, 6-1 win on court one. Christopher Tasker followed closely behind with a straight sets win on court six to extend the Trojan lead to 3-0. The fourth and match clinching point came from court two when Manuel Bernard won his match 6-0, 6-2.
With the match in hand, the two teams played to finish on the final three courts. Next to finish was Bedwan on court three who won by a 6-3, 6-1 score. Following Bedwan with wins were Nico Simkin on court five and Llinares on court four.
Troy will be back in action Friday at 1:30 p.m. when they travel to Chattanooga, Tenn. to take on the Mocs. Chattanooga is 0-3 on the season.
