Trojans In Third After Day One of Sun Belt Indoor Championships

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Troy sits in third place with 29 points after day one of the Sun Belt Indoor Track & Field Championships, just two and a half points outside of second.
The Trojans finished the day with a dominant victory in the distance medley relay – comprised of Lauren Locke, Vennessa Frank, Edita Sklenska and Tanner Guest – with the second-fastest time in school history (11:54.08). This marks the third consecutive year Troy has taken gold in the event.
Maja Kuessner highlighted the day in the field events by breaking her own school record to earn a silver medal in the high jump. The freshman posted a height of 1.78m, breaking her previous record of 1.74m.
Samara Nelson placed seventh and set a new personal best of 16.69m in the weight throw, tallying two points for the Trojans in the team race.
Macki Walsh (17:16.00) and Gracie Booher (17:37.19) had strong outings for the Trojans in the 5000m, finishing fourth and fifth, respectively.
Day one consisted primarily of preliminary races. Troy sent three runners though to the finals in the mile in Cadi Rowe, Guest and Locke. Guest also qualified for the 800m finals alongside Sklenska and Donisha Jeanty.
Frank posted the sixth-best qualifying time in the 400m as the lone Trojan to advance to the finals in the event. Jasmine Riley earned a spot in tomorrow's 200m final with a 24.62 second qualifying time.
