TROY, Ala. – Logan Cerny was named one of Collegiate Baseball's National Players of the Week, the prominent publication announced Monday. The Troy center fielder is the third Trojan in the last three seasons, and 12th ever, to be recognized.
Cerny had one of the best outings of Opening Weekend in the country against Youngstown State. Cerny blasted three home runs and two doubles in the Saturday contest against the Penguins, tying the school record for total bases in a single game (16) set in 1990.
The Lawrenceville, Ga. native was the first Trojan since 2014 to hit three home runs in a game since Jo-El Bennett did so in 2014.
Cerny totaled seven RBIs and scored three runs during his 5-for-5 day at the plate. The sophomore is slashing .625/.667/2.000 after the first weekend of play and leads the Sun Belt in home runs, total bases and is tied for the most doubles.
Prior to the season, Cerny was listed by D1Baseball as the No. 6 prospect in the Sun Belt for the 2021 draft.
Cerny and the rest of the Trojans return to action Tuesday at Riddle-Pace Field for a 6 p.m. matchup against in-state foe UAB.
