TROY, Ala. – Going up against a field that includes five teams ranked in the top 25, including the nation's top-ranked team, the Troy men's golf team heads to Tallahassee, Florida and the Golden Eagle Country Club for its first team event of the spring. Play is set for Friday, Saturday and Sunday with 18 holes each day.
"We're excited to be back on the road playing some team golf," head coach Bart Barnes said. "We've played in this tournament consistently and almost everyone in our lineup has played here. I'm hoping that continuity gives us some comfort and we're able to get off to a fast start."
Joining Troy for the three rounds in Tallahassee will be No. 1 Oklahoma, No. 10 Florida State, No. 13 Oklahoma State, Nov. 18 Duke and No. 25 Liberty plus a handful of other top 50 and top 75 programs.
"Playing against a field like this brings up the level of excitement knowing that we are competing against some of the best teams in the country," Barnes said. "It will be a great measuring stick for us nationally and in our league with a couple of Sun Belt teams in the field as well."
Brent Hamm anchors the top of the Troy lineup with a pair of top 10 finishes and a team-best 73.27 stroke average on the season. He has played four of his 11 rounds under par this year with just two rounds stretching past 3-over par.
Will McFadden and Ryan Morrison have been steady at the top of Barnes' lineup with averages of 75.55 and 76.90, respectively, with a pair of rounds under par between them in four events. Jarrod Johnson will make his Troy debut in the event after reaching the top 100 in the country during his prep career at Ironwood Ridge High School in Tucson, Arizona, while Tallahassee native Bryson Bianco will make his second appearance of the season and have the opportunity to play on his home course.
Nicklas Borrmann will also play in the Seminole Intercollegiate for the Trojans but his scores will not count towards the team card as he will play as an individual.
"We have to play patient golf this weekend," Barnes said. "It is an old school course with a lot of dog legs. We have to take our time and not take too many risks early in the tournament. Keeping the ball in play off the tee and using approach shots to set up birdie opportunities will be the key."
