Anderson Surpasses 4,000 Assists, But Troy Falls To Coastal Carolina

CONWAY, SC. – Trojans got off to a hot start Friday night and saw Amara Anderson become the fourth Trojan in program history to surpass 4,000 assists but couldn't capitalize as they fell in three straight sets (26-28, 15-25, 15-25) against Coastal Carolina from the HTC Center.

"Kudos to Coastal for playing an efficient match tonight, head coach Josh Lauer said. "They put pressure on our serve receive offense, and we struggled to find a good rhythm after losing a tough 1st set. I need to continue to help our team be more consistent on offense. However, our team is working hard, and they continue to be committed to doing things the right way, and no doubt is going to pay off as the season progresses."

Amara Anderson led Troy (9-7, 2-3) and the match with 32 assists. Anderson now has 4,005 assists in her career, becoming the fourth Trojan in history to surpass that mark and is currently second in the rally-scoring era in the category. In her first game back from injury, Tori Hester led the Trojans with 12 kills. Lacey Jeffcoat led all players in the match with 12 digs.

Coastal Carolina (11-4, 5-0) remains unbeaten in Sun Belt Conference play as Jasmine Rivest led the Chanticleers with 10 kills, and Lina Perugini had 10 digs. Coastal Carolina only committed six errors on the night compared to 20 by the Trojans and totaled 11 blocks, nine more than Troy, who finished with two.

First Set: In a set that saw 11 tie scores and five lead changes, Troy had a commanding 16-9 lead and hit .333 as a team. Following a Coastal Carolina timeout, the Chanticleers scored eight of nine points and took a one-point lead. However, Trojans went on a rally themselves as back-to-back Alison Siersma kills tied the match at 21. Following service errors by Coastal Carolina, the Trojans had three set points but couldn't close it out as an unsuccessful challenge led to a Coastal point, and an ace finished the set 28-26 in the Chanticleer's favor.

Second Set: Julia Brooks, Cheyenne Hayes, and Tori Hester each recorded four kills in the set, but Coastal Carolina had a .524 hitting percentage their highest of the match had gotten out to a seven-point lead that was too much for the Trojans to overcome and would end the set on a four-point run to take the second set 25-15.

Third Set: The third set saw the Trojans have their lowest hitting percentage of the match at .074 and commit eight errors. The Chanticleers again got out to a seven-point lead and didn't allow a Troy rally as they once again finished a set with four straight points and sealed the match with another 25-15 set win.
