TROY, Ala. — Troy Volleyball falls to North Alabama in three sets (25-18, 25-22, 25-15) on the second day of the Troy Invitational.

The Trojan's high-powered offense from Friday night cooled off on Saturday, as the Cardinal and White's attack percentage dropped from .434 (43/7/83) to .088 (30/19/125). Third year outside hitter Kalina Calvillo picked up where she left off against Mercer and recorded 10 kills with a pair of service aces.

North Alabama (2-0) hit .241 (40/12/116) as a group, led by Reese Ricketts who picked up 10 kills of her own.

Set 1 — Troy 18, North Alabama 25
The Trojans took an early 2-1 lead in the opening set, but the Lions quickly recovered and held on the rest of the way. A seven-point run paired with five kills from the Lions' Anna Hoffmayer helped put the opening set out of reach.

Set 2 — Troy 22, North Alabama 25
The closest set of the match saw the Trojans register more kills (13) than the Lions (12). The second set featured 11 ties all the way up to 22 apiece before the Lions ran away with the final three points to take a 2-0 advantage in the match.

Set 3 — Troy 15, North Alabama 25
North Alabama jumped out to an early 6-1 edge, forcing the Trojans to use their first timeout. Unfortunately for the Crimson and White, they found themselves in an 18-7 hole deep into the set, and despite a valiant comeback attempt, ultimately fell short to the in-state foe.

"We had a tough time getting our offense going tonight. It was a bit of a roller coaster, but they battled really hard on a night where some things weren't working. Kudos to North Alabama, they were really sharp tonight, and I thought that their defense was incredible coming out of the gate, as they put a lot of pressure on us. Great lesson for our team, they are going to have a chance to respond tomorrow."

Notables

First-year libero Kenzly Foote made her Trojan debut on Saturday and registered four digs.
Addison Kersting recorded a career-high three digs.
Kalina Calvillo recorded double-digit kills for the second consecutive contest.
The Trojans reside at 1-1 for second time in the past three years to open the season.
Troy is now 0-1 all-time against North Alabama since both programs made the jump to Division I.
