TROY, Ala. – The Troy Soccer team returned home from a two-match road swing in-style, toppling Appalachian State, 1-0, Thursday night at the Troy Soccer Complex.
The match kickstarted without much fanfare, with both squads combining for just five shots, one of which was on goal through the first 20 minutes of action.
Troy's (5-7-1, 2-4-0) leading scorer Erin Bloomfield flashed her soccer knowledge with a heads-up read of a Mountaineer (4-7-1, 0-5-0) attempted pass back to the goalie. Bloomfield intercepted the pass and found the back of the net in the 22nd minute for the seventh time this season.
The final 23 minutes of the half proved to be a defensive showdown with only two shots recorded before heading into the break.
App State jumped out of the half, looking to spark some offensive momentum, recording their first two shots on goal in the 54th and 56th minutes.
The Mountaineers continued to fight through the 89th minute of the match, where they looked to send the match into overtime with a pair of corner kicks.
However, Troy's defense batted away both scoring attempts to help secure goalkeeper Lindsey LaRoche's fifth career clean sheet.
Quotable – Head Coach Nicole Waters
"It feels great to pick up the win tonight. We always want to win at home, so it is nice that we were able to come home after two close losses on the road. It was nice to score in the first half and be able to keep that win and a shutout."
