MONROE, La. – Powered by Lisa Blankestein's overtime golden goal, Troy downed ULM in the final regular-season matchup Thursday at Brown Field.
In the 93rd minute, Blankestein found her first goal of the season with the help of Nia Wilson to secure Troy's (7-9-1, 4-6-0 Sun Belt) win over ULM (12-3-1, 5-4-1 Sun Belt) in overtime.
Nia Wilson gave the Trojans a 1-0 advantage in the 19th minute with a strike off a pass from Allison Worley to kickstart the match.
However, the Warhawks retaliated in the 34th minute with a Mara Grutkamp goal that eventually sent the match into halftime tied.
The second half proved to be a defensive showdown, with both goalies collective a trio of saves to keep the match scoreless.
In the 76th minute, a foul awarded ULM a free kick, setting up Lucia Lobato for a shot on goal that was saved by Lindsey LaRoche. Just seconds later, Lisa Blankestein broke away and fired off a shot that ULM goalie Hailey Hillock stopped.
Neither team was able to fire off a shot through the remaining 14 minutes of the match, sending the match into overtime.
Blankestein recorded the first and only shot of the overtime with her game-winner.
Quotable – Head Coach Nicole Waters
"The team battled for everything, and I'm proud of them for how they worked even with the weather conditions. It is definitely a better late than never feeling to get our first road win of the season and our first overtime win. The team is very excited to finish off our regular season with a win moving into the conference tournament on Monday evening. Special shout out to Nia for her goal and assist in today's game."
