TROY, Ala. – Troy's Javon Solomon has been named to The Athletic's Mid-Season All-America Second Team, the publication announced Tuesday. Solomon ranks third nationally in tackles for loss and is sixth in the country in sacks.
Only a redshirt freshman, Solomon became just the third FBS player since at least 2000 to record 12 tackles for loss, 7.5 sacks and one interception in the first six games of the season -- Carl Nassib (Penn State, 2015), Elvis Dumervil(Louisville, 2005).
The Tallahassee, Fla., native enters Troy's bye week with 12 tackles for loss and 7.5 sacks through the Trojans' first seven games of the season. Solomon also has an interception and a forced fumble on his tally this year.
Against Southern Miss, he became the fifth player at the FBS level since 2017 to record at least nine tackles, five tackles for loss and 3.5 sacks in a game, and the first player in Sun Belt history to do so.
In that game, he set the Troy tackles for loss record, and his sacks total was the second-most in a game in school history. His sack tally tied for the 10th most in Sun Belt history, while his TFL total finished just a half TFL off the league record.
Prior to this past weekend's game at Texas State, Solomon had recorded a sack in four straight games and multiple tackles for loss in three of the last four contests.
Solomon is a significant part of Troy's defense that has allowed the third-fewest yards in Sun Belt history through seven games of a season and has held four of its seven opponents to fewer than 100 yards rushing.
