Ncube Shines, Troy Battles in ITA Southern Regional

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Michelle Ncube shined at the opening day of the ITA Southern Regional, advancing to the Qualifying Round of 16 Thursday at the Roberta Alison Baumgardner Tennis Facility.

Ncube kicked off action at 9 a.m. against McNeese State's Natalia Mora Ballo, advancing to the Qualifying Round of 32 with a 6-3 6-4 win. The Harare, Zimbabwe native followed with a win over Samford's Sofia Zaprianov, 6-4, 6-3, to climb to Friday's Qualifying Round of 16.

Kristina Kukaras started her day in the Qualifying Round of 64 and picked up the win over Samford's Ally Hayduk. Kukaras then fell to conference foe Lucie Raquin from Louisiana in the following round.Â

Olivia Elliott drew a first round bye in the qualifying bracket, automatically advancing to the round of 32. Elliott fell to Tulane's Lily Waither, 6-1, 6-2.

Anastasiia Khokholva will join the action tomorrow at noon in the main draw while both of Troy's doubles teams received first round byes and will start on Saturday.
