Troy Places Six on ASUN All-Decade Track and Field Team

TROY, Ala. -- The Troy Trojans track programs placed six student-athletes on the ASUN All-Decade Team (2001-10), the conference announced Friday.

The Trojan men's track and field program earned four honorees while the women's program saw two different former Trojans receive all-decade honors.
Â
During the decade, the Trojans men's team captured five outdoor titles and saw two different athletes qualify for the NCAA Championships, while the women won the finished second in 2005.
Â
In order to be named to the ASUN All-Decade Team, individuals must have competed for at least two years in the decade as an ASUN student athlete. Individuals that obtained one of the following honors were named to the team: three first team all-conference selections in a single event, five total first team all-conference selections total, multiple superlatives awards or at least one NCAA Championship appearance.

The honorees for the Trojans were as follows:
Men:
Michael Acree:
• Earned the Most Outstand freshman Performer at the 2002 ASUN Outdoor Championships
• Three-time long champion (2002, 2003, 2005)
• His 2005 score of 7.74m is the second-best mark in ASUN history
• Qualified for the 2005 NCAA Outdoor Championships, finishing 18th
• Two-time triple jump champion (2002, 2003).

Louis Harris:
• Earned MVP honors, leading the Trojans to a second-place finish at the 2005 ASUN Outdoor Championship
• Won both the 100m and 200m dash events, qualifying for the 2005 NCAA Championship, where he finished 24th and 25th in the two events.

Michael Heck:
• MVP of the 2004 ASUN Outdoor Championships after earning the gold in three different events (discus, hammer and shot put)
• One of nine student-athletes in ASUN history to win three events in an ASUN Championship.
Mike Morris:
• Won back-to-back 110m and 400m hurdle at the 2004 and 2005 ASUN Outdoor Track and Field Championships
• In both seasons, Morris led the Trojans to back-to-back ASUN Outdoor Track and Field titles.
Women:

Takia Shoats:
• Earned four total wins at various ASUN Outdoor Championships, earning a pair of discus and hammer throw
• Shorts is the only Trojan to have won a gold in either event

Sherion Taylor:
• A three-time winner (2002, 2003, 2004) of the triple jump at the ASUN Outdoor Championship
• Only the second student-athlete in school history to take gold in the triple jump
• Only three-time triple jump winner, and the only person to win back-to-back triple jump golds.
