Cross Country Prepped to Start 2020 Season

TROY, Ala. – The Troy cross country team will kick off the 2020 season Friday at the Azalea City Classic at Old Brookley Golf Course in Mobile, Ala. The women begin their 5k trek at 5:50 p.m. with the men's 5k to follow.

On the men's side, the Trojans lost seniors Bradley Dixon and Daniel Glick but retain the other five runners from the 2019 Sun Belt Conference Championships in Silas Franklin, Blake Vaughn, Isaiah Eller, Thomas Ward and Mason Bennett.

Behind Dixon, Franklin recorded the next-best finish in five of Troy's seven outings last year including an eighth-place finish in the Azalea City Classic.

Vaughn led the men in the NCAA DI South Regional 10k with a time of 34:53.00.

For the women, Blount returns both statistical leaders in Cadi Rowe and Macki Walsh.

Rowe opened up her first campaign in a Trojan uniform with a second-place finish in the JSU Struts Season Opener 4k in 14:45.90. The sophomore also led the Trojans in the NCAA DI South Regional 6k finishing in 22:21.70.

Walsh's junior campaign was highlighted by an eighth-place finish and 5k personal record in the Foothills XC Invitational in 18:18.60.

The men compete in a six-team field including conference rivals Louisiana and South Alabama. In the women's eight-team field, the Trojans will also see conference rivals Louisiana and South Alabama and in-state foe UAB.
