Troy Football Rated One of Most Cost-Effective Programs in Country

TROY, Ala. – The Troy football program has operated at a high level on the field for years and in a recent study released by ValuePenguin, a LendingTree company, the Trojans were named one of the most cost-effective programs in the country. Over a 10-year period (2004-13), Troy ranked 29^th nationally and third in the low budget (less than $7 million) category.

Since moving to the FBS ranks in 2001, Troy has won six Sun Belt Conference championships, made eight bowl appearances and knocked off Power 5 opponents LSU, Nebraska, Mississippi State, Missouri and Oklahoma State. Two of those victories – Missouri and Oklahoma State came at The Vet – and Troy has also hosted Mississippi State, Duke and Navy and will welcome NC State to The Vet this upcoming season.

"Troy Trojan Football has long been considered one of the premier Group of Five programs in the nation due to our great history, spectacular facilities, success on the field, our passionate fan base and amazing support from our University leadership," Director of Athletics Brent Jones said. "This study proves what we have known for a long time and that is Troy Trojan Football is a very special program that is nationally respected and feared."

The study considered two factors when compiling their rankings – annual end-of-season ranking, which accounted for 65 percent of the score, and annual average expenses over the 10-year period, which made up for the other 35 percent.

Compared to other programs in the state, Troy ranked just two spots behind Alabama, while being ranked ahead of Auburn and UAB. Within the Sun Belt, Troy was one of just two teams ranked in the top 60 (Arkansas State, 47). Troy trailed just Nevada and Northern Illinois in the lower budget classification and rated higher than such programs as Notre Dame, Penn State, Wisconsin and Michigan overall.
