TROY, Ala. -- The Troy Trojans have added a fourth member to the class of 2020, as former Robert E. Lee standout De'Marquiese "Duke" Miles has signed his National Letter of Intent Troy head coach Scott Cross announced Thursday.
Â
Miles, a 6'2" guard from Montgomery joins Rory Pantophlet, Kieffer Punter and Christian Turner who all signed their NLIs yesterday.
Â
Miles, the Alabama 7A All-Metro basketball Player of the Year, led the Generals to a school-record 33-1 record this past season and the Alabama Class 7A state title. During his four years at Lee, the Generals were a staggering 112-17 overall.
"Duke is a 6'2" point guard that plays for Coach Bryant Johnson of Lee High School in Montgomery. Duke helped Lee to a record-breaking season with a 33-1 record & a 7A Alabama State Championship. Duke was selected as MVP of the state tournament and is a point guard that does it all. He can pass, dribble and shoot, but his defensive ability and competitiveness are the two things that make him so special. He is the epitome of an OKG [Our Kind of Guy]!"
Â
The guard averaged 17.4 points, 4.8 assists and 3.1 steals a game a season ago, recording nine double-doubles. Miles was a first-team Alabama Sports Writers Association All-State selection and one of the three finalists for the Alabama 7A Player of the Year.
Â
The guard was also named to the ASWA Super All-State team, which lists the five best Alabama players for the 2019-20 season regardless of position or state classification. Miles was the first player from Lee-Montgomery to be named to the Super All-State team in school history.
Â
The guard follows in the footsteps of his high school head coach Bryant Johnson, who was a member of the 1993 Trojans squad that advanced to the Division II national title game.
Â
What They're Saying:
Â
Robert E. Lee Head Coach Bryant Johnson:
"Duke was a 4-year varsity letterman who led us to over 100 wins. Throughout his career, he never missed any workouts! He was always was vocal when he saw fit, and his work ethic outweighed his talk. He learned a lot of his leadership style from current NFL prospect Henry Ruggs III, whom he played with as a freshman. Duke finds a way to get the job done anyway he has to. Whether passing, defending the best player on the opposing team, scoring or rebounding, he touches all facets of the game. I remember Duke used to joke with me: "Coach, you're always talking, you played at Troy! Lil old Troy!" Now he's going to play at Troy. The first time we visited Troy he fell in love with the campus, so I know Troy was the perfect place for him!"
