ARLINGTON, Texas – Troy kicked off conference play in style downing UT Arlington, 11-2, powered by a season-high 14 hits Friday at Allan Saxe Field.
The Trojans (15-4, 1-0) picked up their 15th win of the season marking the squad's best start since 2012.
Troy broke the silence in the top of the fourth inning scoring three runs off three consecutive singles by Meagan Patterson, Kaylee Chapman and Mia Jenkins.
A pair of home runs by Jade Sinness and Brooke Echols followed by a Logan Calhoun double tacked on another three-run inning for the Trojans.
In the top of the sixth, Katie Lively doubled to left center and Kelly Horne drew a walk setting up Jade Sinness for her second long ball of the night, a three-run blast.
The Mavericks (9-13, 0-1) answered with a two-run home run in the bottom half of the inning but the Trojans turned in two more runs in the top of the seventh to solidify the conference opener victory.
Leanna Johnson (9-2) earned the win scattering two runs and two hits. Libby Baker also saw an innings worth of action giving up no hits and a walk to close out the game.
Kenedy Hines (2-3) suffered the loss for UTA allowing five hits, three runs and a hit by pitch in three innings of action.
Quotable- Head Coach Beth Mullins
"I was really proud of the way this team came to play today. I thought our offense made some really good adjustments throughout the game and strung a lot quality at bats together. We are going to just continue to take it one game at a time and buy into the process."
