Troy Treks to South Carolina

TROY, Ala. – The Troy softball team heads to Columbia, South Carolina to participate in the Black and Garnet Challenge where they will square off against No. 16 South Carolina and Charlotte this weekend at Beckham Field.

The Trojans (11-3) enter the weekend after picking up a shutout win over McNeese State on Wednesday.

Leanna Johnson (7-2) continues to be Troy's workhorse in the circle having pitched 65.1 innings this season. The sophomore currently sits at the top of national rankings with five shutouts and second in strikeouts (94).

Kelly Horne drives the offense batting .400 with three doubles, a pair of home runs and team-best 12 RBI.

Charlotte (11-6) enters the weekend riding a nine-game win streak. The 49ers are led by Bailey Vannoy who is batting .540 with four doubles, two triples, nine home run and 25 RBI. Inside the circle, Charlotte primarily relies on Carson Pace who has recorded a 3.40 ERA with 42 strikeouts over 55.2 innings of work.
South Carolina (10-3) enters the weekend after having downed Sun Belt Conference foe Georgia Southern on Wednesday. Offensively, Haley Simpson leads the Gamecocks batting .423 with two doubles, two triples and three RBI. Kelsey Oh powers South Carolina in the circle tossing a team-high 32.2 innings with a 2.14 ERA and 51 strikeouts.
