Troy Splits Opening Day of Citrus Classic

ORLANDO, Fla. – The Trojans used a five-run fourth inning to power past Oakland, 5-4, before falling to Clemson, 10-1, in the opening day of the Diamond 9 Citrus Classic at ESPN Wide World of Sports.
Libby Baker (3-1) led the Trojans offensively going 1-for-2 with two RBI and picked up her third win of the season against Oakland (3-2).
Game One: Troy 5, Oakland 4
Logan Calhoun reached on an error to spark Troy's (7-3) offense in the bottom of the fourth.
An error and a pair of singles by Katie Webb and Katie Lively scored Calhoun to put Troy on the board. Back-to-back singles by Mia Jenkins and Libby Baker plated three more runs for the Trojans.
Troy's scoring was rounded out with a fifth run scored off of a hit by pitch and a fielder's choice.
Oakland struck first in the top of the first inning with two runs off a triple by Madison Jones and a single by Cammie Brummitt.
The Grizzlies plated another run in the top of the third inning, but Troy's five-run fourth inning was too much to overcome.
Baker picked up her third win of the season scattering three runs and five hits. Leanna Johnson (SV 2) picked up the save pitching three hitless innings and fanning five batters.
Chelsea Wiggins (1-1) suffered the loss for Oakland giving up five runs off five hits.
Game Two: Clemson 10, Troy 1
Troy scored first in the top of the first inning when Kelly Horne singled to left field to score Candela Figueroa who reached after being hit by a pitch.
The Tigers (8-6) answered in the bottom of the first inning with three runs off a pair of home runs.
Clemson's offense let loose in the bottom of the third inning scoring five runs off six hits and an error. The Tiger's tacked on two more to down the Trojans in five innings.
Leanna Johnson (4-2) suffered the loss for Troy giving up six runs off six hits.
Valerie Cagle (3-5) earned the win pitching three shutout innings scattering a hit and giving up six hits.
