Troy Set to Open Final Road Trip of the Year at Coastal Thursday

TROY, Ala. -- The Troy Trojans men's basketball program will open a three-game road trip Thursday night at Coastal Carolina.

Tip-off from the HTC Center is set for 6 p.m. Central.

The Trojans, who opened Sun Belt Conference play with a 77-59 victory over the Chants, are currently a game behind Coastal Carolina and Louisiana for the 10th and final playoff spot. Â

Troy closes out the weekends action on Saturday afternoon at App State. Tip-off from Boone is set for 3 p.m. Central.

LAST TIME OUT- (Troy- 9-18, 5-11 Sun Belt)
The Troy Trojans look to sweep the season series from Coastal Carolina on Thursday night. With a victory, the Trojans would snap a three-game losing streak that features three losses by a combined 11 total points. Last weekend, the Trojans welcomed ULM and Louisiana to Trojan Arena. In the matchup against the Warhawks, the Trojans overcame an 18-point deficit with 19:52 remaining. In that contest the Trojans outscored ULM 52-40 in the second period. After starting off the game on an 9-4 run, the Trojans were outscored 30-19 to close the first half. After a 3-pointer gave ULM a 37-19 lead, Troy outscored the Warhawks 52-37, cutting the ULM lead to just one possession on multiple occasions. With the score sitting at 69-66, Nick Stampley slide in and took a charge to give the Trojans possession with less than 30 seconds to play. On the ensuing possession, the Trojans got a good look from three, but the shot just clanged off the rim. After a pair of free throws gave the visitors a 71-66 lead, Desmond Williams nailed a three-pointer that cut the ULM lead to just 71-69 with four seconds to go. Out of timeouts, ULM was able to in bound the basketball into the corner. Trying to draw a tie-up that would have awarded possession back to Troy, the Trojans were whistled for a foul. ULM went on to hit one-of-two free throws, holding on for a 74-71 victory. On Saturday, Junior Ty Gordon scored 28 points (19 in the second half) leading the Trojans back from multiple double-digit deficits in the second half. Down the stretch, the two teams traded runs, as Troy used a 12-2 run to cut the Louisiana lead to just 47-41. After ULL opened a 63-49 lead with 9:04 left, the Trojans responded cutting the Ragin' Cajuns advantage to just eight. Down eight with just over four minutes to go, senior Charles Norman poked the ball free from Mylik Wilson with six seconds remaining on the shot-clock. Wilson calmly retreated into the backcourt, grabbed the ball, and drove down the lane for clutch layup. Troy had opportunities down the stretch, but Louisiana used a strong effort from the foul-line (22-of-31 in the second half) to hold off Troy.

LAST TIME OUT- (Coastal Carolina, 13-14, 6-10 Sun Belt)
The Coastal Carolina Chanticleers enter Thursday's matchup having lost seven of their last nine games overall. The stretch, which began back on Jan. 16 against Little Rock, features five losses by 15 points or more, including a 100-63 home loss to Texas State back on Feb. 6. Since playing the Trojans last, Costal Carolina has lost Keishawn Brewton who announced a couple of weeks ago that he was going to transfer from the program. Brewton was Coastal's second leading scorer (14.5 points) and had made a team-best 65 triples. Earlier in the season, Coastal lost dynamic guard Ebrima Dibba to a season-ending knee injury. The Chants return home this weekend after dropping a pair of contests to Georgia Southern and Georgia State. In Thursday's matchup in Statesboro, Coastal cut an 18-point Georgia Southern behind a 22-5 run. The run, cut the Eagles advantage to just 69-65 with just over two minutes remaining. Down the stretch, Georgia Southern hit some clutch free throws, that prevented Coastal from getting any closer than five points. In that game Montgomery native Tommy Brewton scored 20 points and grabbed 13 rebounds for Costal Carolina. Despite dominating inside the paint, the Chants failed to hit a 3-pointer (0-14) and connected on just 11-of-22 free throw attempts. On Saturday, the Chanticleers fell 92-80 to Georgia State. In that game, DeVante' Jones scored a career-best 24 points. The forward also had 9 assists and 7 rebounds. In that game, Coastal hit 23-of-29 attempts from the line and connected on six 3-pointers. Costal was hurt by a big performance by Damon Wilson (20 points) and Nelson Phillips (20 points). Coastal has lost four of its last five at home.

• Troy has outscored its opponents by 24 points in the second half the last four games. The Trojans scored 102 points the second half of both matchups last weekend.
• Since being reinserted into the starting lineup back on Jan. 6 at Texas State (12 games), junior Nick Stampley is averaging 8.3 points, 6.5 rebounds and 1.2 blocks. Stampley is shooting a blistering 37-of-65 (.569) from the field in that span and has grabbed 33 offensive rebounds. Stampley recorded his first career double-double on Thursday.
• The Trojans are a perfect 2-0 all-time at Coastal Carolina. Troy defeated Coastal Carolina 74-67 a year ago at the HTC Center.
• Ty Gordon is averaging 14.9 points and 4.1 assists in 2020. Gordon recorded at least 10 points in nine of Troy's 10 January games and has scored 20 points twice this month. Gordon is averaging 14.5 points in conference play, shooting 43.7 percent from the field.
• Troy has won six of its last eight games where they have hit at least 10 3-pointers. The Trojans are just 3-13 when they don't hit at least 10 3-pointers this season.
 • Troy has drawn 68 total charges this season through 27 games (2.5-per- game). The Trojans have drawn at least one charge 23 of 26 games.
