TROY, Ala – Troy men's basketball junior Thomas Dowd has been named to the Lou Henson Award Early Season Watch List, as announced by CollegeInsider.com. The award is presented annually to the top player in mid-major college basketball.
Dowd, one of two Sun Belt players to appear on the watch list, is in the midst of a remarkable season for the Trojans. The Dothan, Ala., native ranks 11th nationally in rebounds per game at 10.4 and eighth in double-doubles with six. Dowd also leads the Sun Belt in both categories and ranks fifth in the country in total rebounds (125).
Dowd is averaging 15.3 points and 10.4 rebounds, making him one of nine players in college basketball to be averaging at least 15 points and 10 rebounds per contest.
Dowd delivered the game-winner against UAB on Dec. 14, a buzzer-beating shot to give Troy its second all-time victory over the in-state foe Blazers.
The recipient of the award will be determined by a 10-member voting committee from a list of finalists announced in March. The winner of the Lou Henson Award will be announced in Indianapolis, Ind., site of the men's Division I Basketball Championship.
