Troy Primed For Midweek Tilts Against Alabama, Jackson State

TROY, Ala. – The Troy baseball team is primed for its first two mid-week games of the season as it prepares for a Tuesday road trip to Alabama before returning home for a Wednesday tilt against Jackson State.
The Matchup: Troy (4-0) vs. Alabama (3-0)

The Trojans are coming off a historic Opening Weekend in which Troy scored a nation-leading 67 runs in four-games against Northern Kentucky. Troy leads the country in doubles (21), hits (64) and runs (67) and ranks in the top five in home runs (7), slugging percentage (.711) and team batting average (.421).
Levi Thomas earned Collegiate Baseball National Player of the Week recognition for his 14-strikeout performance in five innings of work. Troy pitchers recorded 108 outs over the weekend, 56 of which came via strikeout.
Six Trojans currently have a batting average over .400 and the top five hitters in the Sun Belt all reside in Troy after the first weekend of the season. Troy has a whopping 29 extra-base hits so far this year, including a stellar performance from freshman William Sullivan who tied a school record with four doubles in Sunday's series finale.
Wilder is expected to make his first start of the season Tuesday in Tuscaloosa. The junior right-hander transferred to Troy from Motlow State Community College Recorded where he recorded 61 strikeouts in 54 innings last season. Wilder earned NJCAA National Pitcher of the Week recognition after a 17-strikeout performance against Dyersburg State.
Scouting Alabama
Alabama started its season 3-0 with an Opening Weekend series sweep over Northeastern. The Crimson Tide finished the 2019 season with a 30-26 record with a 7-23 mark in SEC play. Owen Diodati leads the Alabama offense with a .667 average and five extra-base hits, including three home runs. Senior righty William Freeman is expected to get the start. Freeman made 12 appearances with six starts, compiled a 2-2 record and posted a 5.40 ERA in 2019.
Scouting Jackson State
Jackson State visits Troy after a 1-3 start to the season at Southern Illinois. The Tigers' lone victory came via a 3-2 decision that lasted 10 innings. Jaylyn Williams boasts the best batting average on the team with .563 to go along with nine hits and four RBIs. Jackson State finished 2019 with a 31-24 overall record and a 15-9 mark in the SWAC.
