TROY, Ala. – Led by the nation's No. 45 ranked player in Connor Futrell, the Troy men's golf team opens its spring season Monday and Tuesday at the LaTour Intercollegiate at the LaTour Golf Club.
Futrell finished the fall 39th nationally with an average round of -1.57 strokes under par, while his 70.21 stroke average checked in 80th in the country. The Tallahassee, Fla., native ranked 12th nationally with a 3.91 average on par-4 holes while his 64 birdies over 14 rounds are tied for the 21st most in the country.
Troy finished the fall with a 2.93 score vs. par as a team and posted 21 individual rounds under par after finishing the 2018-19 season with 20 total rounds under par.
"We have a young team that is continuing to get more reps, and they are getting more comfortable each time out," head coach Bart Barnes said. "Expectations as a team and individually have been raised as well. Before, a 73 or even par was a target, but now to reach our ultimate goal of a Sun Belt title those rounds have to be a stroke or two better, and we've been doing that this year."
Joining Futrell at the event will be Will McFadden, Brent Hamm, Ryan Morrison and Nicklas Borrmann, while Bryson Bianco will play as an individual.
McFadden and Hamm tied for third among the Trojans with four rounds under par in the fall; McFadden posted a 1.93 score vs. par (including a 7-under 64) and Hamm finished with a 2.14 score vs. par.
Morrison played in all five fall tournaments bouncing between an individual role and spot in the lineup and finished with a 3.86 score vs. par, while Borrmann played in three events with a 5.22 score vs. par. Bianco played twice as an individual in the fall and finished with a 4.80 score vs. par.
