Johnson Tosses Shutout over EIU; Troy Falls to SEMO

Leanna Johnson (4-1) pitched her third shutout and her third double-digit strikeout game of the season while Katie Lively blasted her first home run of the season, second of her career.
Game One: SEMO 13, Troy 3
The Redhawks (3-1) connected on ten hits for 13 runs to give Troy (6-2) their first loss of the Troy Invitational.
The Trojans struck first in the bottom of the first inning with a pair of bases loaded walks to create an early two-run advantage.
Southeast Missouri answered with a pair of bases loaded walks and a sacrifice fly hit by Rachel Anderson to claim the lead in the bottom of the third.
Lively smashed a homer over the right center wall to chip away at the Redhawk lead, but Southeast Missouri tacked on runs in the top of the fifth, sixth and seventh inning to pull away with a 13-3 victory.
Kaylee Anderson (2-0) earned the win for the Redhawks scattering two hits in four innings of work.
Libby Baker (2-1) suffered her first loss of the season allowing four runs off four hits and a pair of walks.
Game Two: Troy 3, EIU 0
The Trojans bounced back quickly toppling Eastern Illinois (4-3) behind Johnson's stellar outing in the circle.
Johnson picked up her fourth win of the season with a three-hit shutout victory where she fanned 13 batters over seven innings of work.
The Trojans struck first in the bottom of the fourth inning with back-to-back doubles by Lively and Kelly Horne and a sacrifice fly by freshman Mia Jenkins.
Troy tacked on another run thanks to a double hit by Katie Webb that scored Candela Figueroa who got on with a single to left field in the bottom of the fifth inning to secure the Trojans sixth win of the season.
Jade Montgomery (1-1) suffered the loss for the Panthers giving up three runs and five hits in five innings of work.

Notable
- Troy's underclassmen dominated at the plate accounting for seven of Troy's nine hits and five of Troy's six RBI.
- Leanna Johnson has turned in 60 strikeouts through 39.1 innings of work this season putting her at nine strikeouts away from her 300th career strikeout.

Troy closes out the Troy Invitational tomorrow at 4:30 p.m. against Southern Miss at the Troy Softball Complex.
