Â
YOUTH MOVEMENT:
The 2020 Trojans roster features just two seniors (Eleonore Freby, Karina Valeriano). The Trojans and head coach Ged O'Connor welcomed 14 newcomers to Troy this season. Back on Sept. 20 at South Alabama, five Trojans (Anderson, Babineaux, Bloomfield, LaRoche and Tessier) earned the start. In total, 10 of the Trojans 14 true freshmen have seen action.Â
Â
THIRD TIME IS THE CHARM:
The Trojans and Panthers will meet for the third time this season. Wednesday's match-up will mark the first time that Troy has ever played an opponent three times in a season. Georgia State and Troy played to a 1-1 draw in Troy back on Oct. 3. In the second match-up in Atlanta, Georgia State used an 86th-minute strike to hold on for a 1-0 victory.
Â
FRESH IMPACT:
Five of Troy's eight goals this season have been scored by a true freshman. Iceland native Regielly Halldorsdottir is currently tied for the team lead in goals with two. Halldorsdottir scored in back-to-back contests against Georgia Southern (Oct. 4) and South Alabama (Oct. 11).Â
Â
WITH A VICTORY:
Troy would advance to the Sun Belt semis for the first time since 2015. In that semifinals match-up the Trojans fell to Georgia State 4-2 in PKs (match was tied 1-1 after 110 minutes).
Â
YOU AGAIN?:
The Georgia State Panthers earned a bye into the quarterfinals of the Sun Belt Conference Tournament after finishing second in the SBC East division. The Panthers closed the regular season 9-2-2 overall and 6-2-2 in conference play. Georgia State last played back on Oct. 28, a 2-0 victory over UAB. Maddie Johnston has led the way offensively for GSU, scoring four goals in 13 contests, while Sophomore Jolie Ryff has added three goals and an assist. In the net, sophomore Jaddah Foos has appeared in 10 of GSU's 13 contests, holding opponents to a goals-against-average of just 0.76. The keeper is 6-1-2 this season, and has played in both of the Panthers match-ups with Troy this season.
