FOLEY, Ala. -- The Troy Trojans soccer teams run in the Sun Belt Conference Tournament came to an end Wednesday night, after the Trojans fell to Georgia State 6-1.
Â
In defeat, sophomore Melissa Kuya-Strobel scored her second goal of the season for Troy (2-9-1), and freshman Lindsey LaRoche made a career-best 11 saves.
Â
Georgia State (10-2-2) started quickly Wednesday, scoring a pair of goals just 95 seconds apart. After LaRoche made a sprawling save on a Lexie Knox shot, Jimena Cabrero landed a perfect cross to Barron who deposited the ball into the unoccupied Troy net.
Â
The second Panthers strike came in the 11th-minute when Cabrero ripped a shot into the upper rightside of the net.
Â
Troy's best opportunity to score in the first half came in the 42nd minute when freshman Mia Tessier's shot from 25-yards out just sailed over the Panthers net.
Â
The Trojans looked to have escaped the first period down just 2-0, but Maggie Hanusek quickly extended the Panthers lead to 3-0 with just 25 seconds left in the half.
Â
Following the halftime break the Trojans were able to cut the deficit to 3-1 when sophomore Kuya-Strobel took a perfect pass from classmate Taytum Terrell and pushed the ball past Georgia State keeper Jaddah Foos.
Â
Georgia State would add two more goals to hand the Trojans their worst loss since Troy lost to Denver 6-0 back in 2011 (Oct. 9).Â
