TROY, Ala. -- The Troy men's basketball program and head coach Scott Cross have announced Troy's complete 2020-21 schedule.
The final 27-game schedule features 12 games at Trojan Arena and non-conference matchups against in-state rivals UAB, Samford, North Alabama and Auburn.
"The most important thing for us this year was limiting our travel," Cross said. "We were looking to find strong games against opponents in our region. I don't think we'll have to get on a plane the entire season which is important. We have a huge game against Auburn which I think depending on the crowd limitations could be really exciting for our fans. It also allows our guys to play in one of the best environments in the country, so that's an exciting game for us. We also have some really exciting in-state games against UAB, Samford and North Alabama. UAB is a big rivalry game and should be a matchup between two very evenly matched teams. We were looking to make a balanced schedule that would prepare us for our Sun Belt schedule."
Troy will begin its 2020-21 campaign with a Nov. 25 matchup inside Trojan Arena against Middle Georgia State, before hitting the road for the Mako Medical Classic in Asheville, N.C., against Western Carolina (Nov. 27) and UNCW (Nov. 28).
The month of December begins with three straight road games at Wake Forest (Dec. 2), at UAB (Dec. 6) and at North Alabama (Dec. 10).
Troy returns home for the first time since the opener on Dec. 16, hosting in-state foe Samford for a 6 p.m. contest.
The Trojans will close the road portion of the 2020-21 non-conference schedule on Dec. 19 at Auburn. Following a few days off for the Christmas holiday, Troy closes 2020 with a matchup against Carver College on Dec. 28.
Sun Belt Conference play and the new year begins with a pair of matchups at Appalachian State (Jan. 1-2).
Following the trip up the mountain, Troy returns home for a pair of games against Georgia State (Jan. 8-9), before hitting the road for back-to-back weekends at Georgia Southern (Jan. 15-16) and Coastal Carolina (Jan. 22-23).
Troy's longest homestand of the season arrives on Jan. 29 when Appalachian State visits for a pair of contests. Troy closes the four-game homestand the following weekend against Georgia Southern (Feb. 5-6).
The Trojans trek to Mobile on Feb. 11 for a date with South Alabama, before playing host to the Jaguars two days later (Feb. 13).
After the final two road games at Georgia State (Feb. 19-20), Troy will close out the Sun Belt regular season with a pair of home games against Coastal Carolina (Feb. 26-27).
Following the conclusion of the regular season, the 12 teams in the Sun Belt will convene down in Pensacola, Fla. for the Sun Belt Conference Tournament (Mar. 5-9). The top two teams in each division will receive a bye into the quarterfinals while the remaining eight teams will play their counterparts from the other division in the reverse order of finish (W3-E6, W4-E5, E3-W6, etc.).
The Trojans kick off the 2020-21 campaign two weeks from this coming Friday (Nov. 20) with the inaugural Troy Basketball Tip-Off event. For more information, visit TroyTrojans.com/tipoff.
"Scheduling is an extremely hard job," Cross added. "Coach [Michael] Worley was working on it day and night with coach [Byron] Jones, and I think they've done an outstanding job of putting it together. When you look around the country, not many people have announced their full schedule, so I think we're ahead of the curve. We're just excited to play basketball and get it started."
