CONWAY, S.C. – Halston Hillier posted a season-high 11 kills on .333 hitting as Troy fell in four sets to Coastal Carolina Friday afternoon in the HTC Center. The Trojans (4-4, 4-4 SBC) dropped the first two sets of the match to the Chanticleers (9-0, 9-0 SBC) and were unable to climb out of the hole in the 3-1 (25-23, 25-8, 12-25, 25-21) loss.
Ashley Guenveur also registered a season-high 10 kills to go along with six digs and three blocks. Amara Anderson recorded her second double-double in a row with 26 assists and 15 digs. Julia Brooks recorded four blocks and finished with four kills on .333 hitting.
Lacey Jeffcoat flirted with a double-double, tying a career-high with seven assists and 18 digs. Natalie Hummel had a solid day in the back row, registering 10 digs and two aces from the service line.
Troy struggled to get around the Coastal Carolina blockers as the Chanticleers finished with 15 blocks. Anett Nemeth was the lone Chanticleer in double figures with 13 kills while Ani Bozdeva added eight of her own.
"I was proud of the way we fought today and the offensive connection with our middles and right-side attack was much improved," head coach Josh Lauer said. "We learned a lot about ourselves this weekend and that is what our focus will be as we get back into the gym. The best is yet to come for us, and I know the competitive matches against a very good Coastal Carolina team are only going to make us more prepared for what lies ahead this season."
