TROY, Ala. – Troy volleyball returns to Trojan Arena for a pivotal divisional series against rival South Alabama Friday at 6 p.m. and Saturday at 1 p.m. The series will have heavy implications on Sun Belt Conference tournament seeding as the Jaguars and Trojans sit in second and third place, respectively, in the east division standings.
"As we get closer to the conference tournament, everyone is jockeying for seeding position," head coach Josh Lauer said. "These matches are important and we're excited to play twice at home against our conference rival. It's been a long time since we've played in front of our fans on our home court, so that's a really exciting piece for us this week."

Friday's contest will mark the third matchup between Troy and South Alabama this season. The teams split a pair of matches on Oct. 1 and 2 in Mobile, both of which went a full five sets. Getting off to a fast start will be key for the Trojans. Troy is 38-16 in the Lauer era when winning the first set and just 11-39 when dropping set one.
Lacey Jeffcoat has been Troy's most consistent player so far this season. The junior libero is averaging 5.09 digs/set which is the ninth-best mark in the nation. Over a three-match span from Oct. 2 to Oct. 22, Jeffcoat became the second Trojan in recorded school history (2004), and first since 2014, to post three straight 20-dig matches.
The Trojans have struggled to find offensive consistency between the outside hitters, middles, and right-side hitters this season. All three areas have had their stand-out matches, but Troy will need to get all three positions firing on all cylinders to find success against the Jaguars.
Julia Brooks has been one of the most efficient attackers in the Sun Belt this season with a .303 average, the sixth-best mark in the league. Cheyenne Hayes leads the Trojans with 102 kills on the year, while Halston Hillier has 67.
Amara Anderson runs the Trojan offense as one of the best setters in the country. The junior's 314 assists are the 11th-most in the nation this season and her career average of 10.74 assists/set is the second best among all active Division I players.
KNOW THE OPPONENT
After an 0-4 start in non-conference play, South Alabama is 7-4 in league action this season. The Jaguars have won five out of the last six meetings between the squads. Rachel Hickey anchors South Alabama defensively with 244 digs on the year while Maddie Soboleski runs the offense with 538 assists this season. Hannah Maddux and Hannah Harris lead the Jaguars offensively with 134 and 129 kills, respectively.
