Women Victorious Again, Men Place Ninth at Blazer Invite

HOOVER, Ala. – For the second time this season, the Troy women's cross country team brought home a victory while the men finished ninth in the Blazer Classic at Veterans Park.
For the first time since at least 2014, the women have been victorious in two races within the same season after winning the Azalea City Classic to kickoff the season.
"The women really responded well to my challenge," head coach Elliott Blount said. "We weren't in a super competitive section of the meet, but we were able to execute the race plan, which was reassuring to see! In two weeks, we will have to be even better with the conference being as competitive as it is. I have the utmost faith in these women moving forward."
Macki Walsh and Cadi Rowe landed inside the top ten for the third race of the season. Walsh led the women in the 6k trek with a sixth-place finish in 21:51.86 while Rowe placed ninth in 22:18.10. Gracie Booher rounded out the women's top three finishes 15th in 22:35.40.
The women tallied 37 points in route to their second win of the season.
On the men's side, sophomore Mason Bennett paced the Trojans in the 8k race for the second consecutive racing placing 77th in 27:18.10. Blake Vaughn finished just behind Bennett in 27:25.72 for a 78th-place finish. Sage Delfino rounded out the men's top three finishers placing 83rd in 27:46.78.
The men's squad tallied 293 points for a ninth-place finish.
"Our men took a baby step," Blount said. "This team has endured a lot early on, and it took us awhile to get our footing. We were lacking consistency in training early on. I think now we are understanding that running together is our only chance at having a successful conference meet. Our success depends on if we take another baby step or that leap of faith."
