TROY, Ala. – The Troy men's golf team returns to action this week with 36 holes at The Intercollegiate at The Grove on Monday and Tuesday at The Grove Club.
The Trojans are coming off a ninth-place finish at the Graeme McDowell Invitational in their first event of the year; however, Troy was within a couple shots of the lead following 27 holes of play.
"We got off to a great start and just couldn't quite put it all together down the stretch," head coach Bart Barnes said. "This is a course that we've played a lot of times and our older guys are comfortable on. There were a lot of positives to pull from our first tournament and our guys came out of it with some confidence that we can build on."
True freshman George Burch shot 1-over and tied for 15th place to lead Troy in his first-ever collegiate event, while Brent Hamm was in the red in two of his three rounds to open the season.
"George played with a lot of maturity and certainly did not look like a freshman on the course," Barnes said. "He never got too high or too low throughout his three rounds and was really solid out of the gate."
Will McFadden and Reagan Harrell will be back in the lineup for the Trojans after strong second rounds in the season-opening event while Nicklas Borrmann is scheduled to make his season debut after finishing his debut season with the Trojans with a 75.78 stroke average.
