Notes: Women's Basketball Hosts In-State Rival South Alabama Saturday

TROY, Ala. – Troy women's basketball, ranked 22nd in the College Insider Top 25 Poll, is back in action on Saturday after being idle since defeating UT-Arlington last Saturday. The Trojans will host in-state rival South Alabama on Feb. 1 at 2 p.m. inside Trojan Arena. Troy will be looking to earn their 17th win of the season, which would set a new program mark for the best start in school history.

The Trojans took sole possession of first-place in the Sun Belt standings last Saturday with its 85-69 win over UT-Arlington. In the lone meeting between the two programs, Troy was able to hold the conferences' leading scoring, Marie Benson who was averaging 17.9 ppg, to just four-points. Troy enters Saturday on a four-game winning streak and a two-game winning streak at home. The Trojans have found a lot of success at home this season with an 8-1 record. With a win on Saturday Troy will be 8-1 in the Sun Belt which would be its best start to the Sun Belt season and just the second time in program history that they have started a conference season 8-1, joining the 1996-97 team in the Mid-Continent Conference.

South Alabama enters Saturday with a 10-10 overall record and a 5-3 record inside of the conference. The Jaguars are coming off a double overtime victory at home against Texas State where they scored 32 points in the final quarter to erase a 23-point fourth-quarter deficit. In the contest South connected on 10 three-pointers, the seventh time this season they have made at least 10, to improve their record to 5-2 on the year when they hit at least 10 triples. It also became the 16th time this season that they have hit at least five 3-pointers in a game. From behind-the-arc they are led by junior Savannah Jones who has hit a team-high 51 triples so far and has hit at least four in a game seven times this season.
