Alvernaz Tabbed Sun Belt Field Athlete of the Week

TROY, Ala. – Troy track and field athlete Michael Alvernaz has been named the men's Sun Belt Field Athlete of the Week, the league office announced Wednesday. This marks the second time in Alvernaz's career, and first time since 2018, that he has received the honor.
"Michael has been very consistent this season," director Marc Davis said. "You always know he'll be in the hunt for a top spot every week. I'm really looking forward to where he goes from here on out."
The senior thrower placed first in the men's weight throw Saturday at the Samford Invitational with a toss of 20.20m.
It is his second consecutive week placing first in the event after winning the UAB Vulcan Invitational with a throw of 20.49m on Jan. 11. That throw qualified Alvernaz for the USA Track and Field Championships.
Troy returns to action Saturday, Jan. 26 at the KMS Invite in Birmingham.
