TROY, Ala. – A pair of Troy women's golfers have earned top honors in their respective states as Anna Claire Little has been named the Alabama Golf Association Women's Amateur Player of the Year and Ainsley Cowart has been named the Georgia State Golf Association Girls' Player of the Year.
Little, a sophomore from Auburn, dominated the amateur circuit with top three finishes at all three of the Alabama Golf Association events she played last summer. Little finished second at the Alabama Women's State Amateur Championship, tied for second at the Women's State Four-Ball Championship and tied for third at the Alabama Women's Stroke Play Championship.
For the Trojans, Little posted a 75.14 stroke average over five fall events including a pair of top 10 performances. Just weeks after a horrific car accident, Little shot a 4-under 68 in the opening round of the USA Intercollegiate to open the season; she would go on to tie for seventh place in the event.
Cowart, a freshman from Winston, bolstered her resume with a 9-stroke victory at the 2019 Georgia Girls Championship; she shot under par in all three rounds, including a 5-under 67 in the opening round. Cowart finished sixth at the Georgia Women's Amateur Championship thanks in part to a 2-under 70 in the opening round and also earned points by qualifying for both the U.S. Girls' Junior Amateur Championship and the Georgia Junior Girls' Match Play Championship.
She played in three events as a true freshman this past fall for the Trojans with one round under par and a 75.75 stroke average over eight rounds.
