Women’s Golf Opens Play at The Ally

WEST POINT, Miss. – Laura Fangmeyer carded three birdies en route to a round of even-par to lead the Troy women's golf team in Monday's opening round of The Ally. Troy is in 13th place in a field that features four teams ranked inside the top 14 nationally.
Birdies were hard to come by on Monday at The Old Waverly Golf Club, as the Trojans combined for just eight as a team, which ranked as the ninth most in the field.
No. 10 Arkansas and No. 27 Florida are tied for the team lead at 8-under par, while ULM is just six shots back in third place. No. 14 Ole Miss is in fourth place, two shots back of the Warhawks, while No. 9 Vanderbilt rounds out the top five.
Troy is five shots up on in-state rival Jacksonville State, while Sun Belt foe Georgia Southern is nine shots back of the Trojans. Troy finds itself just seven shots back of No. 13 Mississippi State
Fangmeyer and Constanza Quiroga opened their days with birdies right out the shoot and both bogeyed the fifth and made the turn even. Fangmeyer birdied the 13th and 14th before two bogies pushed her card even, while Quiorga birdied the 10th and had a pair of bogeys to finish 1-over. The pair sits tied for 18th and tied for 24th, respectively.
Manya Saini is tied for 67th place after shooting 7-over on Monday, while Evelyn Tankersley had an up-and-down round, where she carded three birdies, but just five pars on the other 16 holes. She shot 9-over on the day and is tied for 73rd place, and Victoria Stutts is tied for 75th place at 10-over.
Teams continue play on Tuesday with the second of three rounds.
