Troy Dominates Chattanooga In Home Opener

TROY, Ala – Troy secured a dominating three-set victory over Chattanooga Friday night in Trojan Arena. It took the Trojans just 70 minutes to put away the Mocs, 3-0 (25-15, 25-13, 25-19).
Serving was key for the Trojans (3-1) tonight, recording eight aces in just three sets of action.
Cheyenne Hayes remained the hot hand for Troy, registering a hitting percentage of .312 for a total of 13 kills. Amara Anderson orchestrated the Trojan offense, tallying 33 assists on the evening.
"It felt great to be back in Trojan Arena," head coach Josh Lauer said. "I loved the energy our crowd brought. We've got a cool student section going and we're creating an environment that is really fun for our girls to play in."
How It Happened
Troy jumped on Chattanooga early, racing out to a 10-1 lead over the Mocs in set one. Hayes and Halston Hillier each recorded four kills in the opening stanza. Freshman Ashley Guenveur registered five digs and three kills to begin the match.
The Trojans didn't let up in set two as Hillier tacked on six more kills to her total for the night. Lacey Jeffcoat anchored Troy defensively, digging four balls for the Trojans.
Troy got out to a 22-13 lead in the final set, before the Mocs made things interesting with a 6-0 run to pull within 22-19. The Trojans' remained gritty, however, taking the next three points to clinch the match, 3-0 (25-15, 25-13, 25-19).
"Chattanooga is really well coached," Lauer said. "I was proud of our girls for sticking with the game plan and taking advantage of some of their weaknesses. I thought we were really strong offensively."
