TROY, Ala. -- The Troy Trojans soccer program returns home for game against in-state rival Jacksonville State Thursday night at the Troy Soccer Complex.
Off to the program's best start since 2009, the Trojans remained unbeaten turning in a pair of gutsy performances at the Jaguar Classic hosted by South Alabama.
On Friday, Troy overcame an early 2-1 deficit to drop former Atlantic Sun rival Stetson 3-2. In the match, senior Kiersten Edlund scored the game-winner directly off a corner kick to give the Trojans the lead for good. Freshman Caroline Tully recorded her first career point, while classmate Melissa Kuya-Strobel scored for the second time.
Sunday, Troy again pulled out a positive result, battling rival UAB to a 1-1 draw. After scoring the winner on Friday, Edlund tallied the lone strike for the Trojans in the 15th minute. Junior Haleigh Mercer turned in another solid effort in net, recording 12 saves.
Troy's four-match unbeaten streak is the longest since 2010, when the Trojans went 6-0-1 over a seven-match span (Sept. 5-Sept. 26).
Thursday's match will be streamed live on Facebook, and live stats will also be available. Admission to the match is free.

YELLOW HAMMER FUN:
Tomorrow's match against Jacksonville State is the second of three consecutive matchups with in-state foes. After the matchup with the Gamecocks, Troy will make the short trip to Auburn to battle the Tigers. Including the two exhibitions, the Trojans will face six Alabama schools.
BEHIND THE BEAK:
Jacksonville State enters the matchup Thursday with a 2-2 overall record, having dropped back-to-back matches. The Gamecocks opened the season with a resounding 7-0 victory over Alcorn State and 2-0 victory over FIU but have since suffered a pair of 3-0 setbacks to Lipscomb and North Alabama. Projected to finish 11th in the Ohio Valley Conference, versatile forward Emma Meadows was named a Player to Watch in the OVC preseason poll. So far this season, three different Gamecocks have recorded a pair of goals.
GED TALKS:
"We're looking forward to challenge that this week presents. I think Jacksonville State and Auburn are two completely different teams. We've played Jacksonville State many times so we're a bit familiar with them. There's the old saying that a team takes one the personality of the coach and I think it's evident there. I know coach Macdonald well. He's a great guy and a great coach and they're a very physical team. We know that they're going to be very physical and fit, and direct. So, it's another big challenge for our group."
On playing games against Alabama schools:
"We always want to play against the in-state teams. Hopefully we beat all of the in-state teams because that really helps with our local recruiting efforts, and it's nice to be able to have bragging rights with our local clubs. I think the goal is always to be looked at as one of the high-level programs in the state. In general, winning is important because it breeds confidence, regardless of whether it's an in-state rival or not. I think we need to dislike all of our opponents equally. We need to bring the same intensity levels for rivalry games and non-rivalry games."
