HAMMOND, La. - Troy soccer suffered its second-straight defeat to open the 2026 season on Thursday night, falling 1-0 to Southeastern Louisiana in a closely contested match.Â
Despite outshooting SLU 15-6 and holding a 5-3 advantage in corners, Troy (0-2-0) was unable to find the back of the net.Â
Southeastern Louisiana (2-1-0) found the breakthrough in the 38th minute as Ella Quinlan headed home the game-winner from a cross by Anna Claire Schwing.Â
Irene Torres registered the first shot on goal of the match in the fourth minute, forcing SLU goalkeeper Kendall Curran to make her first save of the evening. Torres continued to find opportunities early, taking four shots within the first 20 minutes, including an ambitious bicycle kick that sailed over the net.Â
Troy limited Southeastern's chances at goal throughout the first half, allowing just two shots. Neither team earned a corner in the first half.Â
Troy's next quality chance came in the 36th minute when Alaina Uncapher put a shot on goal, but the shot harmlessly rolled into the arms of Curran.Â
Moments later, Quinlan converted for Southeastern, scoring what would prove to be the game-winning goal.Â
Troy opened the second half threatening, as a cross from Uncapher grazed just over the head of Torres and into the goalkeeper's arms.Â
The match's first corner came in the 53rd minute. The Troy cross from the far corner eventually fell to Grace DeShetler, who turned and fired on goal. Deflected off a Lion, the shot struck the crossbar, denying Troy the equalizer. Moments later, Troy found the back of the net, but an offside call nullified the goal.Â
The final major Troy chance came in the 86th minute, as Layla Juliano's inswinging corner kick connected with Madisyn Marchesi, who headed the ball just over the bar.Â
Southeastern Louisiana was able to keep possession in the closing moments, holding on for the 1-0 win.Â
