TROY, Ala. – Featuring non-conference matchups with Mississippi State and Duke and 13 games in Trojan Arena, Troy women's basketball head coach Chanda Rigby announced the 2019-20 Troy women's basketball schedule on Tuesday.
"Our schedule is exciting and offers several interesting matchups for us," Rigby said. "We play two of the NCAA's most notable women's basketball program this season (Mississippi State and Duke) in back-to-back games."
Troy opens its season at home Tuesday, Nov. 5, against Fort Valley. Other home non-conference games include Jacksonville State (Nov. 16), AUM (Dec. 4) and East Tennessee State (Dec. 11).
The Trojans will face two tough tests on the road against Power-5 opponents in Mississippi State (Nov. 18) – a No. 1 seed in last year's national tournament – and Duke (Nov. 24). Troy also hits the road to Las Vegas this season to compete in the Las Vegas South Point Holiday Hoops Classic against Toledo (Dec. 19) and Kent State (Dec. 20); both Toledo and Kent State are coming off 20-win seasons.
"The players are especially excited about our games in Las Vegas and carrying Troy's brand to an area of the country we don't normally travel to," Rigby said.
Sun Belt play begins when Coastal Carolina and Appalachian State visit Trojan Arena (Jan. 2) and (Jan. 4), respectively. Troy's first conference road test comes at ULM (Jan. 9). Additionally, seven of the Trojans' last nine league games will be on the road.
Troy is set to square off with in-state rival South Alabama in Mobile on Saturday, Feb. 29.
The Trojans return nine letterwinners from last season's 22-win team that earned a berth in the Women's NIT. Last season, Troy led the Sun Belt Conference in scoring average (82.3) and rebounding average (50.5) for the seventh consecutive season. The Trojans ranked fifth in the nation in scoring and led the NCAA in rebounding.
"Our goal is to win the Sun Belt Championship, so each game is urgently important," Rigby said. "We plan to give our all one game at a time to reach that goal."
The Sun Belt Tournament will begin March 10-11 at campus sites around the league and conclude with the Sun Belt Final Four March 14-15 at the Smoothie King Center in New Orleans, La.
