Pelayo Finishes Runner-up at Mercer Classic

MACON, Ga. – For the second-straight tournament, Troy has been competing for the tournament crown on the final day of competition.

Junior Pelayo Antuna was one of many Trojans to put together a solid Mercer Classic. After earning two victories on the opening day of competition he picked up right where he left off on the following two days.

With wins against David Innocenti of UNC-Willmington and Alex Roumpis of Georgia Southern, Antuna became the second Trojan in as many weeks to be competing for the tournament title.

In his final match he met Bryan Triana of Kennesaw State. The two battled hard with neither giving an inch and each earning a set win. In the final set of the contest Antuna continued to battle but ultimately fell to Triana to take home runner-up honors.

In all, Troy earned seven singles victories and a double win at the Mercer Classic. Through the first two weeks of the fall season the Trojans have built great momentum heading into the final three competitions of the fall season.

Up Next
Troy will be off this weekend before a stretch of tough competition. The Trojans will be in multiple places the weekend of Oct. 4 and some will be heading to Birmingham to compete in the Samford Invitational, Oct. 4-6 while other will be competing in the ITA All-American Championships in Tulsa, Okla.
