Troy Opens Sun Belt Conference Tournament with Coastal Carolina

SAN MARCOS, Texas – The Troy softball team will open up play in the Sun Belt Conference Tournament with the sixth seed Coastal Carolina Thursday morning at Bobcat Stadium. First pitch is set for 10 a.m.

The Trojans (37-18, 19-8 Sun Belt) received a double bye after entering the tournament as the second seed while Coastal Carolina (37-19, 13-14) defeated Georgia Southern, 2-1, and UT Arlington, 5-4, to advance to game five of the tournament.

Katie Webb leads the offensive efforts for Troy batting a .355 with eight doubles, three triples, a home run and 32 RBIs. Bailey Taylor leads the team in RBIs with 40 and bats a .309 with eight doubles and six home runs.

Leanna Johnson (25-7) continues to dominate in the circle for the Trojans. The freshman ranks within the top 10 in school history in victories, strikeouts, innings pitched and shutouts. Johnson also ranks eighth nationally in victories with 25, 18th nationally in strikeouts with 224 and 22nd nationally in shutouts with seven.

Webb and Johnson were both tabbed All-Sun Belt First Team while Taylor was dubbed All-Sun Belt Second Team. Johnson also was named the Sun Belt Conference Freshman of the Year.

Courtney Dean leads Coastal Carolina's efforts at the plate batting a .327 with 11 doubles, 13 home runs and 36 RBIs.
