Three Softball Players Earn All-Sun Belt Honors

TROY, Alabama – Leanna Johnson and Katie Webb were named All-Sun Belt First Team while Bailey Taylor was tabbed All-Sun Belt Second Team. Johnson also was dubbed the league's Freshman of the Year, the conference office announced on Tuesday.

Leanna Johnson has dominated in the circle for the Trojans this season. The freshman ranks in the top 10 in school history in victories, strikeouts, innings pitched and shutouts. The Brantley, Alabama native also ranks eighth nationally in victories with 25, 18^thnationally in strikeouts with 224 and 22^ndnationally in shutouts with seven. Johnson threw her first career no-hitter in the series finale against Georgia State.

Katie Webb leads Troy's offensive efforts batting a .355 with eight doubles, three triples, a home run and 32 RBIs. The Salem, Alabama native ranks 32^ndnationally in toughest to strikeout having only been fanned seven times this season. The junior is tied for first in the league with three triples, one of which was a game-winning walk-off against Appalachian State. The first basemen checks in with a stellar .989 fielding percentage with just three errors and 251 putouts.

Bailey Taylor ranks fourth in the conference in RBIs with a team-high 40. The sophomore is currently riding a 16-game reached base streak and is just a game away from matching her longest career reached base streak of 17 games set earlier this season. The Winnsboro, South Carolina native has recorded eight doubles and a team high six home runs. Of Taylor's six home runs, two have been three-run shots, and she has one grand slam.

"These are well earned awards for Bailey, Katie and Leanna," head coach Beth Mullins said. "All three of them have been very consistent throughout the entire year and have helped this team reach new heights."

The Trojans have earned back-to-back Sun Belt Freshman of the Year honors after Annie Willis was tabbed Freshman of the Year last season.

"Leanna did a great job of coming in as a freshmen with a mature and competitive mindset, and I'm super proud of her earning Troy's second Freshman of the Year award in a row," Mullins said.

Troy enters the Sun Belt Conference Tournament as the No. 2 seed and opens play on Thursday at 10 a.m. The Trojans opponent is still to be determined.
