Troy Sets Four School Records at Sun Belt Championships

Jonesboro, Ark. – Troy track & field completed the Sun Belt Conference Outdoor Championships by winning five events and setting four school records at Arkansas State Track Facility this weekend.Â
Â
As a team, the men finished with 97 points in fourth while the women scored 81 points and finished fifth.Â

GOLDÂ
Niata Alexander took home gold in the 400m race in a school record time of 53.09 seconds. In the 200m race, Jared Hayes finished in a personal record time of 20.53 seconds to secure first place.

4x100m relay team of Hayes, Matthew Likely, Quinest Bishop and Kaleb Allen-McDuffie dominated the race as the only team finishing the race in sub-40 seconds, as the team set a school record taking gold in 39.84 seconds.Â

The women's 4x400m relay team of Alexander, Tiarra Bailey, Madison Kennedy and Precious Ogba won the race in a school record time of 3:38.43, which is a little more than two seconds faster than second place.Â

Gemma Finch crossed the finish line in first in the 800m race with a time of 2:11.63.Â

PODIUM PLACEMENTS
Casimir Tawiah finished second in the 110m hurdles in 14.09. Titus Sizemore took home silver in the high jump with a season best mark of 2.11m.Â

The women's 4x100m relay team consisting of Gabrielle Henderson, Maya Kelly, Sydney Wright and Alexander crossed the finish line in second in a school record time of 45.21 seconds.

Austin Snyder finished third in the shot put with a personal record throw of 16.56 meters. In the 100m hurdles, Alexis Garrett placed third with a time of 13.96. Kennedy earned the bronze medal in the 400m race, crossing the finish line in a personal record time of 54.12, third fastest time in school history.Â

Daquan Coleman set his personal record and the third fastest time in school history in the 400m hurdles, finishing in second place in 51.83 seconds. In the 200m race, Alexander notched second place in 23.66. For the men in the race, Matthew Likely (second) and Quinest Bishop (third) set their personal records in respective times of 20.65 and 21.01 seconds.

Qualified Trojans will head to Jacksonville, Fla., at the University of North Florida to compete in the NCAA Division I Outdoor Track and Field Championships preliminary rounds from May 23-25.Â
