TROY, Alabama – Troy University's women's golf and women's cross country programs received Public Recognition Awards on Wednesday as part of the NCAA Academic Progress Rate (APR) program for the 2017-18 academic year; both programs ranked among the top 10 percent of their sport.
Both programs recorded perfect 1,000 APR scores for the reporting period. This marks the fifth-straight year that the women's golf program has earned an NCAA Public Recognition Award, while women's cross country earned the award for the third year in a row.
"We are extremely proud of both of these programs for their sustained academic success," Interim Director of Athletics Sandy Atkins said. "Our student-athletes across all programs continue to set new benchmarks for academic achievement, and for our women's golf and women's cross country programs to be among the top 10 percent nationally is an accomplishment that should be praised by all associated with Troy University."
The APR provides a real-time look at a team's academic success each semester by tracking the academic progress of each student-athlete on scholarship. The APR accounts for eligibility, retention and graduation and provides a measure of each team's academic performance. The most recent APRs are multiyear rates based on scores from the 2014-15, 2015-16, 2016-17 and 2017-18 academic years.
APR scores for all Division I teams will be released May 8. The APR measures eligibility, graduation and retention each semester or academic term and provides a clear picture of the academic performance for each team in every sport. All teams must meet an academic threshold of 930 to qualify for the postseason and can face penalties for continued low academic performance.
