Troy, Ala. – Troy track & field senior Niata Alexander has been named Sun Belt Women's Track Athlete of the Week as announced by the league office on Wednesday evening.Â
Â
Alexander, native of Douglasville, Ga., earned the honor after posting a personal record and moving into second all-time at Troy in the 400m race with a time of 53.69 seconds, good for second place at the War Eagle Invitational this past weekend.Â
Â
Alexander's 400m time is more than one second faster than the second-quickest time in the Sun Belt Conference. On a national level, the senior's time is tied for 46th in all of NCAA Division I and sits tied for 26th in the NCAA Division I East rankings.Â

Additionally, Alexander was a member of the 4x100m relay team that set the Troy school record at the War Eagle Invitational with a time of 45.42 seconds.Â

This honor marks the second consecutive weekly track athlete of the week for the Trojans as sophomore Jared Hayes took home the accolade last week.Â

Troy will compete at the 125th Penn Relays, the largest and oldest track & field competition in the United States, from April 25-27 at Franklin Field in Philadelphia.Â
