Troy Set to Host Appalachian State in Crucial Sun Belt Matchup

TROY, Alabama – Troy softball will play host to conference foe Appalachian State with a pivotal three-game series this weekend at the Troy Softball Complex. The teams will square off in a doubleheader on Friday with game one starting at 5 p.m. and the series will conclude Saturday at 1 p.m.

This late conference matchup could prove crucial in terms of conference tournament seeding for both squads. Troy (32-14, 14-5 Sun Belt) jumped ahead of Appalachian State (28-14, 11-6) to the second spot in league standings after taking the series against Georgia Southern last weekend.

Talia Truitt leads the offensive efforts for the Trojans batting a .392 in conference play. Bailey Taylor and Kaylee Hussey remain tied with five home runs apiece. Taylor leads the team with 37 RBIs while Hussey checks in just behind her with 31.

Leanna Johnson (22-5) continues to shine in the circle after picking up two more wins last weekend. Johnson enters this week's matchup ranked 20^th nationally in strikeouts with 175 and fourth nationally in victories with 22.

Scouting the Mountaineers
Appalachian State comes into the weekend after picking up a midweek win over Presbyterian College. Keri White leads the efforts at the plate batting a .340 with seven doubles, two triples and a home run while Alison Durrence and Jenny Dodd lead the team in RBIs with 26 apiece.

Kenzie Longanecker (14-4) sees the majority of the time in the circle with a 2.08 ERA over 124.2 innings of work and sits at second in Sun Belt pitching ranks. Sydney Holland (11-6) also sees time in the circle with a 2.29 ERA and 53 strikeouts over 97.2 innings of work.

On Friday, Demarcus Ware will throw out the first pitch, and the first 100 fans will receive a free One Troy cup.

The first 100 fans to Saturday's series finale will receive Troy ear buds. Following the game, there will be an Easter egg hunt on the field for all the kids.
