TROY, Alabama – Three years to the day that Troy University and the state of Alabama celebrated DeMarcus Ware Day, the Troy legend and NFL superstar will make his return to campus this weekend. Ware will serve as an honorary coach at T-Day in addition to making several other appearances across town and campus.
Troy Athletics and the City of Troy will be accepting donations (bottled water, clothing, cleaning supplies, toiletries, etc.) for the tornado victims in both Troy and Lee County at the Saint Peter Baptist Church (310 Corman Ave., Troy) on Friday from 12:45-2:15 p.m. Ware will be on-site at the church to help with the relief and donation efforts.
Ware will then meet with the Troy football team and take a tour of the North End Zone Facility before heading over to the Troy Softball Complex to throw out the first pitch before Troy takes on App State at 5 p.m.
The nine-time Pro Bowl selection will take part in the free Future Trojans Kids Camp at 9 a.m. in The Vet before taking in the T-Day Spring Game from the sideline. Following the game, Ware will make an appearance at Troy's baseball game against Appalachian State.
"It's awesome to get him back in town for T-Day Weekend," Troy head coach Chip Lindsey said. "I'm looking forward to spending some time with him and having him be around our players."
T-Day Radio Broadcast: The Troy Sports Radio Network crew will be on hand at The Vet on Saturday to bring fans all of the action of T-Day. Doug Amos and Jerry Miller will be in the booth providing the play-by-play, while Chris Blackshear will be on the sidelines with live interviews with Troy players, coaches and special guests throughout the broadcast.
The game will be carried locally on 94.7 FM in Troy and will be streamed online for free at TroyTrojans.com.
T-Day Format: Troy fans will see a traditional spring game on Saturday as the Trojans will line it up for four quarters in a true scrimmage.
"The first half will be regular football with two 12-minute quarters and normal timing and then we will run the clock in the second half," Lindsey said. "I think it will be good for a lot of our guys to get some reps and let them end spring on a positive note."
North End Zone Open:The seating area of the North End Zone Facility will be open for all fans to check out the view. Limited seats still remain in the North End Zone for the 2019 season and members of the Troy Ticket Office will be on hand in both the North End Zone and on the West concourse to help fans secure their seats for the 2019 season.
Fans who purchase their season tickets at T-Day will receive a mini replica of The Vet and be entered into a drawing for various prizes.
Future Trojans Kids Camp: Before T-Day kicks off at 11 a.m., all children aged 4-12 are invited to take part in the second annual Future Trojans Football Camp. Registration for the free camp begins at 8:30 a.m. at Gate 1 and the one-hour camp begins promptly at 9 a.m.
"I think this is a big event for us because our players sometimes lose sight on the impact they have on our community," Lindsey said. "It's a great opportunity to help some kids out and have a great time."
Parents are encouraged to stay at The Vet during the camp to watch their children take part in all the festivities. All kids who attend the camp will receive a free ticket to Troy's baseball game that afternoon at 1 p.m.
ScreenTech BOGO: Fans can load up on their favorite Trojan gear at T-Day as ScreenTech will be holding a buy one, get one free sale during the game. ScreenTech will be set up on the West concourse.
