Troy, Ala. – Troy was unable to slow down Samford's bats as the Trojans dropped a tough 15-5 decision in non-conference baseball action on Tuesday night at Riddle-Pace Field.

The Bulldogs (26-11) bats were hot from the beginning of the game as Samford led off with a first-pitch homerun to take an early lead over Troy (19-18) who mustered only five hits.

Troy's five hits came from five different players, led by senior Sadler Goodwin whose sole hit was an RBI-triple to right center field. Junior Dalton Sinquefield also tallied one hit with an RBI and a run scored.

The Trojans struggled on the mound as junior Max Newton suffered his fourth loss of the season (1-4) after tossing 2.1 innings giving up six runs on seven hits and two walks.

Troy responded well from the first-pitch homerun by Samford by scoring three unearned runs in the bottom of the first to claim a 3-1 lead. The Bulldogs answered with a five-run third inning that saw three doubles to regain the lead that they would not relinquish.

Samford went on to score at least one run in every inning except for the eighth including a huge four-run fourth inning to put the game out of reach.

Sophomore Rigsby Mosley extended his reached base streak to 28 games after drawing two walks on the night. Mosley sits one game behind teammate Drew Frederic for the longest career reached base streak among active players.

Troy welcomes Appalachian State for a three-game Sun Belt Conference series beginning on Thursday at 6 p.m. at Riddle-Pace Field. Games two and three are set for Friday at 6 p.m. and Saturday at 1 p.m. All three games will be broadcast live on ESPN+.
