Â
GAME ONE
Troy struck first in game one, but Georgia State exploded for eight runs in the sixth inning to hand the Trojans a tough 12-5 loss and even the series at one game apiece.Â
Â
Junior Zack Lightsey (1-1) suffered the loss on the mound, tossing 1.2 innings with three earned runs on six hits and three strikeouts. Sophomore Levi Thomas started the game but was only able to go 3.1 innings.Â
Â
Sophomore Rigsby Mosley tied his career high with a game-high four hits in five at-bats with a run scored. Freshman Logan Cerny and senior Cole Prestegard also turned in a multi-hit game as they each tallied two hits on the evening.Â
Â
Troy grabbed an early 3-0 lead heading into the bottom half of the fourth before GSU racked up four runs in the inning off a fielder's choice, a sacrifice fly and a two-RBI double to left field.Â
Â
The Trojans answered with an RBI single to center field from junior Drew Frederic in the fifth to tie the game at four. The Panthers responded with an eight-run sixth inning capped off by a two-run home run and a two-RBI single to right field to secure the win.Â
Â
GAME TWO
Troy saw itself in a deep hole after the first inning but posted 10 unanswered runs to clinch the series with a 10-5 win over GSU in the final game of the series.Â
Â
Georgia State kept its hot momentum from game one as it posted five quick runs, forcing Troy to make a call to the bullpen after only one out in the first inning.Â
Â
Senior Sadler Goodwin entered the game in relief in the first and dominated for five innings only giving up one run with a career-high eight strikeouts. Senior Rush Hixon followed behind Goodwin, tossing the final 3.2 innings and recorded a season-high seven strikeouts with only giving up three hits to earn his fourth save of the season.Â
Â
The 15 combined strikeouts between Goodwin and Hixon marks the season high.Â
Â
The Trojans bats woke up in the third inning as junior Dalton Sinquefield and Goodwin hit back-to-back RBI singles before Cerny hit a sacrifice fly to right field to bring the score to 5-3.Â
Â
Sinquefield finished the game going 2-for-3 with a career-high tying three RBI, career-high three runs scored and a walk while Goodwin also posted a stellar performance at the plate going 3-for-5 (ties his career high for hits in a game) with a season-high four RBI.Â
Â
Troy's third inning momentum carried into the fourth inning as the Trojans scored six runs in the inning off two-RBI singles from Sinquefield and Goodwin, an RBI-single from Mosley who finished with a perfect 2-for-2 outing with three walks and two runs scored, and a run scored from a balk.Â
Â
Goodwin added an insurance run to secure his win on the mound and Troy's series-clinching victory with an RBI-double to left center field in the eighth.Â
