TROY, Alabama – Troy used a pair of three-run innings to power them over ULM Saturday afternoon at the Troy Softball Complex. Kaylee Hussey's three-run shot gave Troy the lead and the series win over the Warhawks.
In the bottom of the second inning, Kaylee Hussey hit her second long ball of the season, a three-run homer that gave Troy (18-8) the lead for good.
The Warhawks (4-19) struck first in the top of first inning with a double by Sydney McKay and a single by Jessie Watts.
After Hussey's three-run bomb in the second, Troy had another three-run inning in the bottom of the fifth to solidify its victory.
A single by Stephanie Snyder scored Hope Hernandez who got on with a walk. Bailey Taylor followed with a single up the middle to score Snyder and Katie Webb, who drew a walk, to cap off Troy's scoring.
Leanna Johnson (12-4) picked up the win after scattering four hits, a walk and sitting down seven batters.
Jessie Watts (0-4) suffered the loss for ULM after allowing five runs off of six hits and four walks.
Quotable
"It was a gritty win. In conference, by that third game everyone has seen everyone," head coach Beth Mullins said. "I really thought that we played a good game. Leanna Johnson did great on the mound, backed by the defense. We had good, timely hits. We did a good job of stepping up after not playing our game in game two and took the series."
