Troy Ends Regular Season with Win, Enters SBC Tourney as No. 3 Seed

TROY, Alabama – The Troy women's basketball team will enter the Sun Belt Conference Tournament next week and the No. 3 seed after an 89-76 win over Coastal Carolina in Trojan Arena Saturday.
The Trojans (22-7, 13-5 SBC) will be seeded third for the second time in three seasons, Troy won the 2017 edition as the No. 3 seed. Under the new bracket format, Troy gets a bye to the semifinals. South Alabama and Louisiana will play in the first round game on Monday. The winner advances to face Texas State in the second round with the winner of that game taking on Troy.
Coastal Carolina (16-13, 8-10) was not match for the hot-shooting Trojans. CCU took a 4-0 lead to start the game, but, after a 0-for-4 start, Troy came roaring back knocking down eight of its next 10 attempts and scored 15 points off turnovers in the opening quarter.
Troy build its lead to as many 27 points in the second quarter as the team made 68 percent (17-25) of its shot to start the half.
Two days after turning in a 19-point performance against Appalachian State, Amber Rivers was again solid scoring a game-high 15 points on 7-of-14 shooting. Japonica James added 12 points, while Janiah Sandifer chipped in with 11 points.
Coastal Carolina was forced into 26 turnovers leading to 35 Troy points. The Trojans entered the game getting 39.8 point per game from the bench, Troy's reserves scored 48 points Saturday.
UP NEXT
Troy will head to New Orleans to participate in the Sun Belt Conference Tournament. The Trojans will play their opening game on Thursday at 2 p.m.
