Troy Set to Face South Alabama in Sun Belt Tournament

GAME NOTES

NEW ORLEANS – Third-seeded Troy begins its quest for a third title in four year as the Trojans face No. 7 South Alabama on Thursday at 2 p.m. in the Sun Belt Conference Tournament at Lakefront Arena.

Troy (22-7) enters the tournament as the No. 3 seed and earned a bye to the quarterfinals after winning the most regular season games in program history. The Trojans will face a South Alabama (22-9) squad that survived a scare from Texas State, 68-67, on Wednesday. The Jaguars led by as many as 16 points in the fourth quarter before the Bobcats began a ferocious comeback scoring 21 of the game's final 27 points.

Thursday's matchup will not be an unfamiliar one as the team's split the regular season series and have faced off in two of the last three tournaments. Troy is 3-1 all-time against South Alabama in the tournament including an 82-79 victory in last year's event.

Troy claimed back-to-back tournament titles in 2016 and 2017. The team fell in the semifinal round, 66-63, to Little Rock last season.

• Troy's three wins over South Alabama in the Sun Belt Conference Tournament are the most against any SBC opponent. The Trojans have faced USA in two of the last three tournements.

• Through 29 games, 11 of the 14 players on the roster are averaging 10-plus minutes per game and 10 different players have led Troy in scoring in a game.

• Troy's 22 wins were the most ever by the program in the regular seasons. Only the 1996-97 team has won more games (23).

• Troy's bench is averaging 39.8 points per game and have scored 34 or more points in all but one conference game. The Trojans put up a season-high 58 bench points at Arkansas State on Feb. 9.
